Fall 2021 Guidelines
Fall 2021 Guidelines
The following guidelines are in place for Fall Term to help ensure the continued safety of everyone. We will carefully monitor the situation on campus and make adjustments as appropriate.
COVID-19 Testing
- Anyone who has not provided proof of full vaccination or a positive spike protein antibody test to the University IS REQUIRED to be tested for Fall Term at one of the times listed below. Information on how to supply proof of vaccination or antibodies to the University may be found on the COVID-19 Vaccinations tab to the left.
- Anyone who is required to be tested, but does not do so at one of the times and dates below will be restricted from campus until they have satisfied this requirement.
- Incoming Thompson Hall students ARE REQUIRED to be tested regardless of vaccination or antibody status. Student Affairs will send information on how this testing will be conducted directly to all impacted students.
- Testing is open and available (though not required) to those who have provided proof of vaccination or antibodies to HR (employees) and/or Wellness Center (students).
- Rapid COVID-19 testing will be held in Sunset during the following times:
- 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 (Thompson Hall residents)
- 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1:45-4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 (open to all students and employees)
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 (open to all students and employees)
- 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 ((open to all students and employees)
- 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1:45-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4 (open to all students and employees)
Safety Procedures
- Inside all University facilities, everyone, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear face masks in all group settings of 3 or more people and at any time when social distancing is not possible, or if a member of the group requests it.
-
- Masks must be worn at all times, regardless of vaccination status or group size in all public spaces including: stairwells, hallways, classrooms, labs, d. spaces, the Library and dining facilities. In these locations, individuals sitting alone and not interacting with others may elect to remove their mask if appropriate social distance is maintained at all times while doing so.
- Notwithstanding these provisions, Faculty may elect to remove their face masks when teaching if and when they deem necessary regardless of class or group size.
- It is also recommended that masks be worn outside when maintaining appropriate distancing is not practical or when specific circumstances warrant.
- Everyone IS REQUIRED to complete the daily health check questions (regardless of vaccination status) upon entry to campus buildings. We do expect to reinstate use of the “Gold Screen” pass for vaccinated or antibody-positive individuals later in the term when we have a better understanding of our situation after the start of B-Section.
COVID-19 Vaccinations and Antibodies Status
- The University does not require vaccinations, but strongly encourages everyone to consider getting vaccinated for the safety of our colleagues and classmates
- To provide proof of full vaccination, you will need to scan your vaccination card and/or official documentation of when you received your vaccine and what type.
- Students can email this to wellness@132072.com; faculty and staff should email hr@132072.com. (Please note that full vaccination occurs two weeks after the final dose is administered).
- The Genesee County Public Health Department continues to offer free, walk-in/no-appointment vaccines at multiple locations to anyone 16 and older. To find clinic locations in Genesee County, click here.
Academics
- All classes and labs are delivered face-to-face.
- All academic support offices including the Academic Success Center, Office of International Programs, the Office of the Registrar and the Co-op office are staffed during normal business hours as well as provide virtual support hours.
- The Library as well as other gathering spaces, including d.spaces, Abbey, BJ’s and Sunset Room are open during normal hours.
- All lectures are recorded as supplemental materials and are made available on Blackboard.
- Online tutoring services are available for all students.
Campus Buildings Access
- Access to campus buildings and spaces (including d.spaces) is available to students from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Employees have access 24/7.
- Entry to buildings is at the following points:
- AB: Use northeast ground floor entrance (near FIRST Robotics Community Center)
- Campus Center: Use southwest ground floor entrance (“pizza doors”)
- Mott Center: Use main entrance on north side of building
- Rec Center: Use main entrance doors (note: open for limited hours).
- Students and employees entering campus buildings will continue to log in to safereturn.132072.com each day on their smartphones to answer health questions (regardless of vaccination status). The cell phone screen will turn GREEN for those approved for entry and RED for those not approved for entry. Individuals will then show the screen, their KU ID and have their temperature taken at building entry points.
- Instructions for the cell phone app can be found on the Wellness Screening Instructions page.
- Visitors will be welcome on campus, but must participate in health screening upon arrival at the main entrance to the Campus Center, have their temperature taken and wear masks while on campus.
Travel Guidelines
- Students or employees who choose to travel to another state in the U.S. with a COVID-19 positive testing rate of 10% or higher on a seven-day rolling average, or who travel internationally to any country except Canada regardless of testing rate, must:
-
- If NOT vaccinated:
- Stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel
- Contact the Wellness Center to schedule a drive-up rapid test 3-5 days after travel
- Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
- If vaccinated:
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms
- Isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- If NOT vaccinated:
- To determine the positive testing rate for a given state, the University will utilize the data supplied daily by the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center through its website link “Testing Trends Tool”. If the state to which you traveled is shown to have a positive testing percentage of 10% or higher on the day of your return, you will have to take one of the two safety measures outlined above before returning to campus.
- During the quarantine period, students should work with their instructors to complete required coursework and refer to recorded course materials in Blackboard. Employees would coordinate with their supervisor to work remotely during the quarantine period.
